Clinical research scientists perform medical research in labs. They develop diagnostic methods, new treatments, and medical devices to cure a wide variety of illnesses.

A clinical researcher does a scientific study on healthy or sick human subjects. A clinical research scientist can work in pharmaceutical industries, research institutes, or hospitals. 

 

Example: More than 280,000 clinical trials have been conducted worldwide between February 2000 and August 2018. Some examples are James Lind’s scurvy trial in 1747, Birth control pill trials in the 1950s, a Robust Diagnostic test clinical trial to Avoid Chemotherapy, and Cannabinoids clinical trials to treat Epilepsy.

    • Clinical Researchers conduct a systematic study of new drug compositions for determining safety and efficacy.
    • They conduct human trials, identify and verify clinical, pharmacological factors, and adverse effects from the data collected.
    • Maintain required records of study activity, including case report forms, drug dispensation records, or regulatory forms. 
    • Monitor study activities to ensure compliance with protocols.
    • Prepare study-related documentation, such as protocol worksheets, procedural manuals, adverse event reports, institutional review board documents, or progress reports. 
    • Communicate with laboratories or investigators regarding laboratory findings. 
    • Review scientific literature, attend conferences and seminars to maintain current knowledge of clinical studies affairs and issues.
